Leendert Runia ging in 1974 naar Groningen om fluit te studeren aan het conservatorium. Hij werd uiteindelijk koordirigent en neemt nu afscheid van het door hem opgerichte Noordelijk Vocaal Ensemble. Dat gaf in 1985 zijn eerste concert, en nu zijn laatste.
