Karim El Ahmadi is opgenomen in de voorlopige selectie van Marokko voor het WK-kwalificatieduel in en tegen Gabon. El Ahmadi staat met zijn land laatste in WK-kwalificatiegroep A, met drie punten uit vier duels. Met nog twee wedstrijden te gaan bestaat er nog steeds een kans op plaatsing voor het Wereldkampioenschap in Zuid-Afrika, al heeft het Noord-Afrikaanse land dat niet meer in eigen hand.
